Membrane arrays offer a multiplex approach to assaying protein expression
Membrane antibody arrays are membrane-based assays that allow simultaneous screening of multiple proteins in a sample. Using HRP-conjugated secondary antibodies and a substrate like Radiance, they can be imaged like a normal chemiluminescent Western blot on a 300 imager. Of course, the 400, 500, and 600 imagers have the capability to chemiluminescence as well.
Membrane antibody arrays are a sandwich-style immunoassay, similar to ELISAs. The arrays consist of a membrane pre-spotted with capture antibodies specific for a variety of proteins. The sample is applied to the membrane and any proteins that become bound to the capture antibodies are detected with a second set of labeled antibodies. Numerous arrays are commercially available, convenient for assaying expression of proteins involved in inflammation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, cell signaling, and other cellular processes.
